The Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics met in a televised session at 11:01 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Pat Martin, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Scott Andrews, Paul Calandra, Patricia Davidson, Jacques Gourde, Hon. Laurie Hawn, Pat Martin, Tilly O'Neill Gordon, Mathieu Ravignat and Bob Zimmer.

 

Acting Members present: Alain Giguère for Charmaine Borg, Parm Gill for Paul Calandra and Hon. Lawrence MacAulay for Scott Andrews.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Dara Lithwick, Analyst; Maxime-Olivier Thibodeau, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Employment and Social Development: Louis Beauséjour, Assistant Deputy Minister, Integrity Services Branch, Service Canada; Robert Frelich, Director, Enterprise Identity Services Divison, Service Canada. Department of Citizenship and Immigration: Peter Bulatovic, Director, Investigation Division, Passport Program Integrity Branch; Lu Fernandes, Director General, Passport Program Integrity Branch. Department of Industry: Michael Jenkin, Director General, Office of Consumer Affairs.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(h) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, November 7, 2013, the Committee commenced its study of the growing problem of identity theft and its economic impact.
 

Louis Beauséjour made a statement and, with Robert Frelich, answered questions.

 

Mathieu Ravignat gave notice of the following motion:

That, pursuant to standing order 108 3(h) (iv), the Committee invite the Privacy Commissioner of Canada to discuss her findings in the Investigation into the loss of a hard drive at employment and social development Canada.

 

At 11:58 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:02 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Lu Fernandes and Michael Jenkin made statements and, with Peter Bulatovic, answered questions.

 

At 12:51 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:52 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

At 12:56 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
