The Standing Committee on International Trade met at 3:29 p.m. this day, in Room 306, The Valour Building, the Chair, Randy Hoback, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Ron Cannan, Don Davies, Randy Hoback, Laurin Liu, Marc-André Morin, Erin O'Toole and Massimo Pacetti.

 

Acting Members present: Stella Ambler for Erin O'Toole, Nina Grewal for Russ Hiebert, LaVar Payne for Devinder Shory, Blake Richards for Hon. Rob Merrifield and David Sweet for Russ Hiebert.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Alexandre Gauthier, Analyst; Pascal Tremblay, Analyst. House of Commons: David Chandonnet, Procedural Clerk.

 

Witnesses: Unifor: Jim Stanford, Economist. Canadian Cattlemen's Association: John Masswohl, Director, Government and International Relations. Canadian Pork Council: Jean-Guy Vincent, Chair; Martin Rice, Executive Director. Association of Seafood Producers: Derek Butler, Executive Director.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, October 1, 2014, the Committee commenced consideration of Bill C-41, An Act to implement the Free Trade Agreement between Canada and the Republic of Korea.
 

Jim Stansford, by videoconference from Toronto, Ontario, and John Masswohl by teleconference from Calgary, Alberta made statements and answered questions.

 

At 4:26 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:31 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Derek Butler, by videoconference from St-John's, Newfoundland Labrador, Jean-Guy Vincent and Martin Rice made statements and answered questions.

 

At 5:21 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:23 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee devote its meeting on Tuesday, October 7, 2014, to hear witnesses in relation to the study of Bill C-41, An Act to implement the Free Trade Agreement between Canada and the Republic of Korea. If there is more than four (4) witnesses, that fifteen (15) minutes be added to the meeting for each additional witness.

 

It was agreed, — That amendments to Bill C-41, An Act to implement the Free Trade Agreement between Canada and the Republic of Korea, be submitted to the Clerk of the Committee no later than on Tuesday, October 7, 2014.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee complete the clause-by-clause study of Bill C-41, An Act to implement the Free Trade Agreement between Canada and the Republic of Korea, on Thursday, October 9, 2014.

 

At 5:34 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
