Meeting No. 34

Monday, February 23, 2015

The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 112-N, Centre Block, the Chair, Gordon Brown, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Gordon Brown, Hon. Stéphane Dion, Rick Dykstra, Jim Hillyer, Pierre Nantel, Kennedy Stewart, John Weston, Terence Young and David Yurdiga.

Acting Members present: Marjolaine Boutin-Sweet for Rathika Sitsabaiesan.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Marion Ménard, Analyst ; Michael Dewing, Analyst.

Witnesses: Department of Canadian Heritage: Jean-François Bernier, Director General, Cultural Industries; Johanne Mennie, Director, Canadian Audio-Visual Certification Office - CAVCO; Scott White, Director, Film and Video Policy and Programs.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Monday, February 16, 2015, the Committee commenced its review of the Canadian feature film industry.

Jean-François Bernier made a statement and, with Scott White and Johanne Mennie, answered questions.

At 4:32 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:35 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

It was agreed, — That the Committee invite the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, to appear in public before the Committee on Supplementary Estimates (C) 2014-15, and on the Main Estimates 2015-16, and that the meeting be televised.

At 4:59 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
