The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 228, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Bev Shipley, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Ruth Ellen Brosseau, Earl Dreeshen, Hon. Mark Eyking, Randall Garrison, Randy Hoback, LaVar Payne, Bev Shipley and Bob Zimmer.

 

Acting Members present: Denis Blanchette for Francine Raynault, Patrick Brown for Pierre Lemieux and Lawrence Toet for Pierre Lemieux.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Frédéric Forge, Analyst; Khamla Heminthavong, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: CropLife Canada: Dennis Prouse, Vice-President, Government Affairs; Stephen Yarrow, Vice-President, Biotechnology. Genome Prairie: Reno Pontarollo, President and Chief Executive Officer; Daniel Ramage, Director of Communications. Canadian Cattlemen's Association: Andrea Brocklebank, Research Manager, Beef Cattle Research Council. Canadian Livestock Genetics Association: Michael Hall, Executive Director.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, March 5, 2014, the Committee resumed its study of innovation and competitiveness.
 

Reno Pontarollo and Daniel Ramage, by videoconference from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and Dennis Prouse made statements and, with Stephen Yarrow, answered questions.

 

At 4:29 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:32 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Michael Hall, by videoconference from Mississauga, Ontario, and Andrea Brocklebank made statements and answered questions.

 

At 5:31 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
