The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 8-53, 131 Queen Street, the Chair, Bev Shipley, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Ruth Ellen Brosseau, Earl Dreeshen, Hon. Mark Eyking, Randall Garrison, Randy Hoback, Pierre Lemieux, LaVar Payne, Francine Raynault, Bev Shipley and Bob Zimmer.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Khamla Heminthavong, Analyst; Frédéric Forge, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Grain Growers of Canada: Allison Ammeter, Director; Janet Krayden, Analyst. Western Grain Elevator Association: Wade Sobkowich, Executive Director; John Heimbecker, Director. Pulse Canada: Greg Cherewyk, Chief Operating Officer. Canadian Canola Growers Association: Rick White, General Manager. Western Canadian Wheat Growers Association: Levi Wood, President. As an individual: Stuart Person, Business Advisor, Agriculture, MNP LLP.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, February 5, 2014, the Committee commenced its study of the Grain Logistics System in Canada.
 

Greg Cherewyk, by videoconference from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Wade Sobkowich, by videoconference from Winnipeg, Manitoba and Levi Wood, by videoconference from Regina, Saskatchewan, made statements and, with John Heimbecker, by videoconference from Winnipeg, Manitoba, answered questions.

 

At 4:31 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:34 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Rick White, Allison Ammeter and Stuart Person, by videoconference from Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, made statements and answered questions.

 

On motion of Randy Hoback, it was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $8,300.00, for the study of the grain logistics system in Canada, be adopted.

 

At 5:33 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
