The Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs met at 8:44 a.m. this day, in Room 8-53, 131 Queen Street, the Vice-Chair, Frank Valeriote, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Sylvain Chicoine, Hon. Laurie Hawn, Pierre Lemieux, Wladyslaw Lizon, Ted Opitz, John Rafferty, Peter Stoffer and Frank Valeriote.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Diane Ablonczy for Bryan Hayes.

 

Other Members present: Dan Harris.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Isabelle Lafontaine-Émond, Analyst; Jean-Rodrigue Paré, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Royal Canadian Legion: William Maxwell, Senior Program Officer, Dominion Command; Bradley K. White, Dominion Secretary, Dominion Command. Canadian Veterans Advocacy: Michael L. Blais, President and Founder. York Catholic District School Board: Sonia Gallo, Communications Manager.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, April 23, 2015, the Committee commenced its study of the subject matter of clause 1 of Bill C-597, An Act to amend the Holidays Act (Remembrance Day).
 

At 8:50 a.m., Peter Stoffer took the Chair.

 

Michael L. Blais, Bradley K. White and Sonia Gallo, by videoconference from Richmond Hill, Ontario, made statements and, with William Maxwell, answered questions.

 

At 9:42 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:45 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

On motion of Pierre Lemieux, it was agreed, — That the Committee proceed to sit in camera.

 

At 10:05 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:05 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 

At 10:07 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
