The Clerk informed the House of the unavoidable absence of the Speaker.

Whereupon, Mr. Devolin (Haliburton—Kawartha Lakes—Brock), Deputy Chair of Committees of the Whole, took the Chair, pursuant to Standing Order 8.

Prayers
Recall of the House of Commons

The Acting Speaker informed the House that, pursuant to Standing Order 28(4), he had recalled the House today for the sole purpose of granting the Royal Assent to certain Bills.

Royal Assent

The Acting Speaker informed the House that His Excellency the Governor General will proceed to the Senate today at 11:30 a.m., for the purpose of giving the Royal Assent to certain Bills.

Messages from the Senate

Messages were received from the Senate as follows:

— ORDERED: That a message be sent to the House of Commons to acquaint that House that the Senate has passed Bill C-50, An Act for granting to Her Majesty certain sums of money for the federal public administration for the financial year ending March 31, 2013.
— ORDERED: That a message be sent to the House of Commons to acquaint that House that the Senate has passed Bill C-36, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (elder abuse), without amendment.
— ORDERED: That a message be sent to the House of Commons to acquaint that House that the Senate has passed Bill C-300, An Act respecting a Federal Framework for Suicide Prevention, without amendment.
— ORDERED: That a message be sent to the House of Commons to acquaint that House that the Senate has passed Bill C-45, A second Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on March 29, 2012 and other measures, without amendment.
Royal Assent

A Message was received from His Excellency the Governor General desiring the immediate attendance of the Commons in the Senate.

Accordingly, the Acting Speaker, with the Commons proceeded to the Senate.

The Commons returned to the Chamber.

Whereupon, the Acting Speaker reported that when the Commons had been in the Senate, His Excellency the Governor General was pleased to give, in Her Majesty's name, the Royal Assent to the following Bills:

The Acting Speaker also reported that he had addressed His Excellency the Governor General as follows:

“May it please Your Excellency:

The Commons of Canada have voted Supplies required to enable the Government to defray certain expenses of the public service.

In the name of the Commons I present to Your Excellency the following Bill:

To which Bill I humbly request Your Excellency's Assent.”

Whereupon, the Clerk of the Senate, by Command of His Excellency the Governor General, did say:

“In Her Majesty's name, His Excellency the Governor General thanks Her Loyal Subjects, accepts their benevolence, and assents to this Bill.”

Adjournment

At 11:55 a.m., the Acting Speaker adjourned the House until Monday, January 28, 2013, at 11:00 a.m., pursuant to Standing Orders 28(2) and 24(1).
