The Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security met in camera at 4:39 p.m. this day, in Room 268, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Kevin Sorenson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Jay Aspin, Rosane Doré Lefebvre, Randall Garrison, Candice Hoeppner, Ryan Leef, Rick Norlock, John Rafferty, Jean Rousseau, Kevin Sorenson and Wai Young.

 

Acting Members present: Kelly Block for Jay Aspin, Hon. Irwin Cotler for Francis Scarpaleggia and Susan Truppe for Brent Rathgeber.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Tanya Dupuis, Analyst; Christine Morris, Analyst.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee conduct a study into all aspects of the economics of policing, by speaking to federal, aboriginal, provincial, territorial and municipal, police forces in all areas of enforcement, with a focus on improving the efficiency and effectiveness of law enforcement.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee undertake a study examining victim’s services, focusing on victims' experiences with the correctional system, and that the study commence in fall 2012.

 

It was agreed, — That, in relation to the study of Bill C-350, An Act to amend the Corrections and Conditional Release Act (accountability of offenders), the proposed budget in the amount of $850.00 be adopted.

 

At 5:05 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
