The Subcommittee on International Human Rights of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development met in a televised session at 1:07 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Scott Reid, presiding.

 

Members of the Subcommittee present: Nina Grewal, Russ Hiebert, Pierre Jacob, Wayne Marston, Scott Reid and David Sweet.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Mark Eyking for Hon. Irwin Cotler.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Erin Shaw, Analyst. House of Commons: Andrew Bartholomew Chaplin, Procedural Clerk.

 

Witnesses: The Burmese Rohingya Association of North America (BRANA): Wakar Uddin, Chairman, Director General, Arakan Rohingya Union. Initiative on Quiet Diplomacy: Barry Parkinson, Associate.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Subcommittee on Tuesday, January 31, 2012, the Subcommittee resumed its study of the human rights situation in Burma.
 

Wakar Uddin made a statement and answered questions.

 

On motion of Wayne Marston, it was agreed, — That the Subcommittee proceed to sit in camera.

 

At 2:08 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 2:09 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 

It was agreed, — That in relation to the study of the human rights situation in Burma, the Ambassador of Burma to Canada be invited to appear before the Subcommittee.

 

At 2:12 p.m., the Subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
