The Standing Committee on Public Accounts met at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, David Christopherson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Malcolm Allen, Lysane Blanchette-Lamothe, Hon. Gerry Byrne, David Christopherson, Earl Dreeshen, Alain Giguère, Bryan Hayes, Daryl Kramp, Andrew Saxton, Bev Shipley and John Williamson.

 

Acting Members present: Bob Dechert for Earl Dreeshen and Ted Opitz for Jay Aspin.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Alex Smith, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Office of the Auditor General of Canada: Louise Bertrand, Principal; Nancy Cheng, Assistant Auditor General. Treasury Board Secretariat: Jim Ralston, Comptroller General of Canada; Sylvain Michaud, Executive Director, Government Accounting Policy and Reporting; Tom Scrimger, Assistant Comptroller General, Financial Management and Analysis. Department of Finance: Douglas Nevison, General Director, Economic and Fiscal Policy Branch.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(g) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, February 5, 2013, the Committee commenced consideration of the Public Accounts of Canada 2012, referred to the Committee on Tuesday, October 30, 2012.
 

Nancy Cheng and Jim Ralston made statements and, with Douglas Nevison and Tom Scrimger, answered questions.

 

At 5:01 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:07 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That notwithstanding the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, February 7, 2013, the Committee schedule its upcoming meetings as follows, if possible:

• Tuesday, February 26, 2013: Consideration of draft reports;

• Thursday, February 28, 2013: hearing on Chapter 6, Transfer Payments to the Aerospace Sector — Industry Canada, of the Fall 2012 Report of the Auditor General of Canada; and

That the hearing on Chapter 7, Long-Term Fiscal Sustainability — Finance Canada, of the Fall 2012 Report of the Auditor General of Canada be scheduled for Tuesday, March 5, 2013 or Thursday, March 7, 2013.

 

At 5:32 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
