[English]

Good morning, everyone. Messieurs et mesdames, bonjour.
Honourable members of the committee, I see a quorum. We can now proceed to the election of the chair. Pursuant to Standing Order 106(2), the chair must be a member of the official opposition.
I am ready to receive motions for the chair.
    Go ahead, Mr. Saxton.
Madam Chair, I'd like to nominate David Christopherson as chair of this committee. That's as long as he accepts.
I do accept, with much thanks and appreciation.
It has been moved by Andrew Saxton that David Christopherson be elected as chair of the committee. Are there any further motions?
There are none. Is it the pleasure of the committee to adopt the motion?
    (Motion agreed to)
I declare the motion carried and David Christopherson duly elected chair of the committee.
If the committee wishes, we will now proceed to the election of vice-chairs.
    Go ahead, Monsieur Ravignat.
    Have you opened nominations? Yes?
One second. I will give you time to breathe.

[Translation]

Pursuant to Standing Order 106(2), the first vice-chair must be a member of the government party.
I am now ready to receive motions for the election of the first vice-chair.
Mr. Ravignat, you have the floor.

[English]

I'd like to nominate Mr. Daryl Kramp.

[Translation]

Mr. Ravignat has moved that Daryl Kramp be elected first vice-chair of the committee. Are there any further motions?
    (Motion agreed to)
The Clerk: I declare the motion carried and Daryl Kramp duly elected first vice-chair of the committee.
    Some hon. members: Hear, hear!

[English]

The Clerk: Pursuant to Standing Order 106(2), the second vice-chair must be a member of an opposition party other than the official opposition. I am now prepared to receive a motion for the second vice-chair.
    Go ahead, Mr. Kramp.
    Thank you, Madam Chair.
I'd like to nominate a most thoughtful, considerate, easygoing colleague across the floor from the far-down-the-way third party, Mr. Gerry Byrne.
    Some hon. members:Oh, oh!
I thought I was going to nominate him.
    Some hon. members:Oh, oh!
It's been moved by Daryl Kramp that Gerry Byrne be elected as the second vice-chair of the committee.
Are there other motions? No, there aren't; it's not possible

  (1105)

I will respond by saying I will accept the nomination and suggest that we report the said saying from Mr. Kramp to the House.
    Some hon. members:Oh, oh!
Is it the pleasure of the committee to adopt the motion?
    (Motion agreed to)
The Clerk: I declare the motion carried and Gerry Byrne duly elected second vice-chair of the committee.
I would now invite David Christopherson to take the chair.
Thank you very much, colleagues. I appreciate the trust you've placed in Tom's selection.
    Go ahead, Mr. Saxton.
Thank you, Mr. Chair. I'd like to congratulate you on being unanimously re-elected as chair of this committee. The government side looks forward to working with you as chair, looks forward to working with all members of the committee, and we look forward to a productive fall session of Parliament and in public accounts.
Since we have completed the agenda for today, I move that we adjourn. We will see each other again on Thursday.
Very well. That motion is in order. It is not debatable. Therefore, unless there are any interventions, and I'm not seeing any, we will proceed to a vote.
All those in favour of Mr. Saxton's motion, please indicate.
    (Motion agreed to)
The Chair: It looks to me as though the motion carries. There are no challenges. Therefore, as included in the motion, we stand adjourned.
