The Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights met at 8:48 a.m. this day, in Room 268, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Dave MacKenzie, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Charmaine Borg, Joe Comartin, Hon. Irwin Cotler, Kerry-Lynne D. Findlay, Robert Goguen, Pierre Jacob, Brian Jean, Dave MacKenzie, Brent Rathgeber, Kyle Seeback, Kennedy Stewart and Stephen Woodworth.

 

Associate Members present: David Wilks.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Julia Nicol, Analyst; Robin MacKay, Analyst.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

The Chair presented the First Report from the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure which read as follows:

That the Committee meet with a delegation from Kenya and a delegation from Vietnam on Tuesday, October 4, 2011;

That the Committee resume its consideration of a draft report on Organized Crime on Tuesday, September 27, 2011;

That the Committee commence the study of the Omnibus Legislation on Tuesday, October 18, 2011.

 

It was agreed, — That the report of the Subcommittee be concurred in.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, September 27, 2011, the Committee commenced its study on the state of organized crime.
 

At 8:50 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 8:51 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Orders 108(1) and 108(2), a Subcommittee on the Review of the Report of the Organized Crime in Canada be created and chaired by Dave McKenzie in order to recommend appropriate additional witnesses and substantial changes to the report arising from witness testimony;

That the Subcommittee be composed of four (4) members, including the chair, two (2) from the Conservative Party, one (1) from the New Democratic Party and (1) from the Liberal Party.

 

At 9:23 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
