The Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 11:02 a.m. this day, in Room 228, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Ed Komarnicki, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Marjolaine Boutin-Sweet, Brad Butt, Ryan Cleary, Rodger Cuzner, Joe Daniel, Ed Komarnicki, François Lapointe, Kellie Leitch, Colin Mayes, Phil McColeman and Devinder Shory.

 

Acting Members present: Alexandre Boulerice for Chris Charlton.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Sandra Gruescu, Analyst; André Léonard, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Statistics Canada: Diane Galarneau, Section Chief, Current Labour Analysis and Perspectives on Labour and Income; Tracey Leesti, Director, Labour Statistics; Sylvie Michaud, Director General, Education, Labour and Income Statistics Branch. Canadian Federation of Nurses Unions: Linda Silas, President.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, April 18, 2013, the Committee resumed its study of opportunities for older persons in the workforce.
 

Sylvie Michaud and Diane Galarneau made statements and, with Tracey Leesti, answered questions.

 

At 11:55 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:05 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Linda Silas made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 12:45 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Brad Butt moved, — That the Committee proceed to sit in camera.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to on the following recorded division: YEAS: Brad Butt, Joe Daniel, Kellie Leitch, Colin Mayes, Phil McColeman, Devinder Shory — 6; NAYS: Alexandre Boulerice, Marjolaine Boutin-Sweet, Ryan Cleary, Rodger Cuzner, François Lapointe — 5.

 

It was agreed, — That, when and if, Bill C-60, An Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on March 21, 2013 and other measures, is referred to the Standing Committee on Finance and a letter is received by the Chair inviting the Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities to consider the subject matter and provisions of clauses 161 to 166 of said bill, the Committee will convey recommendations, including suggesting any amendments, in both official languages, in relation to said clauses, in a letter to the Chair of the Standing Committee on Finance, in both official languages, not later than 9:00 a.m. on Monday, May 27, 2013.

 

At 1:01 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
