Monday, February 6, 2012

The Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 3:33 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Ed Komarnicki, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Brad Butt, Jean Crowder, Rodger Cuzner, Joe Daniel, Carol Hughes, Ed Komarnicki, Kellie Leitch, Colin Mayes, Phil McColeman, Claude Patry, Manon Perreault and Devinder Shory.

Associate Members present: Richard M. Harris.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Sandra Gruescu, Analyst ; André Léonard, Analyst.

Witnesses: Department of Human Resources and Skills Development: Louis Beauséjour, Associate Assistant Deputy Minister, Skills and Employment Branch. John Howard Society of Canada: Catherine Latimer, Executive Director. Canadian Association of Elizabeth Fry Societies: Kim Pate, Executive Director.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, November 30, 2011, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-316, An Act to amend the Employment Insurance Act (incarceration).

Catherine Latimer and Kim Pate made statements and answered questions.

At 4:37 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:47 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Louis Beauséjour made a statement and answered questions.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

It was agreed, — That the Canadian Nuclear Association be invited to appear before the Committee on Wednesday, February 29, 2012, in relation to its study “Skills Development in Remote Rural Communities in an Era of Fiscal Restraint”.

At 5:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
