The Standing Committee on Health met at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Joy Smith, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Kelly Block, Patrick Brown, Colin Carrie, Parm Gill, Dany Morin, Anne Minh-Thu Quach, Djaouida Sellah, Joy Smith, Mark Strahl and John Williamson.

 

Acting Members present: Sean Casey for Hon. Hedy Fry and Irene Mathyssen for Libby Davies.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Sonya Norris, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Pain Coalition: Lynn Cooper, President. Fédération interprofessionnelle de la santé du Québec: Régine Laurent, President; Lucie Mercier, Labour Advisor, Sociopolitical Affairs. Associated Medical Services Inc.: Jeffrey Turnbull, Member, Board of Directors. Canadian Coalition for Seniors' Mental Health: Kimberley Wilson, Executive Director.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Colin Carrie moved, — That the Committee invite the Honourable Leona Aglukkaq, P.C., M.P., Minister of Health, to appear before the Committee on the Supplementary Estimates (B) 2011-12 on Monday, November 21, 2011, from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Monday, October 3, 2011, the Committee resumed its study of chronic diseases related to aging.
 

Régine Laurent made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 4:17 p.m., pursuant to Standing Order 115(5), the sitting was suspended.

At 5:03 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Questioning of the witnesses resumed.

 

At 5:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
