The Standing Committee on the Status of Women met in a televised session at 4:14 p.m. this day, in Room C-110, 1 Wellington Street, the Chair, Lysane Blanchette-Lamothe, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Stella Ambler, Niki Ashton, Joyce Bateman, Lysane Blanchette-Lamothe, Joan Crockatt, Anne-Marie Day, Roxanne James, Tilly O'Neill Gordon, Susan Truppe and Wai Young.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Carolyn Bennett for Hon. Judy Sgro and Jean Crowder for Sana Hassainia.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Martha Butler, Analyst; Havi Echenberg, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Native Women's Association of Canada: Michèle Audette, President; Teresa Edwards, Director, International Affairs and Human Rights. Idle No More: Janice Makokis, Organizer. As an individual: Mary Eberts. Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke: Lloyd Phillips, Chief. Legislative Assembly of Manitoba: Brian Pallister, Member of the Legislative Assembly.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, April 17, 2013, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill S-2, An Act respecting family homes situated on First Nation reserves and matrimonial interests or rights in or to structures and lands situated on those reserves.
 

Michèle Audette, Janice Makokis, Mary Eberts, Lloyd Phillips and Brian Pallister made statements.

 

At 4:35 p.m., by unanimous consent and pursuant to Standing Order 115(5), it was agreed that the Committee continue to sit for an additional six minutes.

 

At 4:41 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
