The Standing Committee on the Status of Women met by videoconference at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 306, La Promenade Building, the President, Niki Ashton, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Stella Ambler, Niki Ashton, Joyce Bateman, Charmaine Borg, Mylène Freeman, Ed Holder, Roxanne James, Tilly O'Neill Gordon, Hon. Judy Sgro, Susan Truppe and Wai Young.

 

Acting Members present: Harold Albrecht for Wai Young, Tarik Brahmi for Sana Hassainia and Bev Shipley for Stella Ambler.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Havi Echenberg, Analyst; Laura Munn-Rivard, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: As an individual: Marie Beaulieu, Tenured Professor. Native Women's Association of Canada: Claudette Dumont-Smith, Executive Director. As individuals: Silvia Straka, Assistant Professor; Christine Walsh, Associate Professor.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

The Chair presented the Third Report from the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure. The Report, as amended, was adopted and read as follows:

1. That the Committee hear from witnesses in relation to the study on abuse of older women on Tuesday, November 1 and Thursday, November 3, 2011, and on additional future dates if necessary.

2. That the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure meet on Monday, November 21, 2011 to discuss future business.

 

At 3:51 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 3:53 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, September 29, 2011, the Committee resumed its study of abuse of older women.
 

Marie Beaulieu, by videoconference from Sherbrooke, Quebec, and Silvia Straka made statements and answered questions.

 

At 4:31 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:34 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Claudette Dumont-Smith and Christine Walsh made statements and answered questions.

 

At 5:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
