The Standing Committee on International Trade met at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 268, La Promenade Building, the Chair, the Hon. Rob Merrifield, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Ron Cannan, Don Davies, Hon. Wayne Easter, Russ Hiebert, Ed Holder, Gerald Keddy, Hon. Rob Merrifield, Marc-André Morin, Annick Papillon, Jasbir Sandhu, Bev Shipley and Devinder Shory.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Alexandre Gauthier, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canada Pork International: César Urias, Director, Latin America and Government Programs Management; Martin Charron, Vice-President, Market Access and Trade Development. Canadian Council for International Co-operation: Sheila Katz, Representative, Americas Policy Group; Brittany Lambert, Coordinator, Americas Policy Group.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Monday, March 4, 2013, the Committee resumed its study of the benefits for Canada in joining the Pacific Alliance as a full member.
 

César Urias and Sheila Katz made statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 4:34 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:36 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee undertake a study on the benefits for Canada of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP);

that the study begin, at the discretion of the Chair, following the completion of meetings on the Pacific Alliance study and consideration of the report of the study of a comprehensive economic partnership agreement (CEPA) with India;

that the Chair prepare a budget for consideration by the Committee for a fact-finding mission to Chile, Mexico and Peru; and

that the Committee use any evidence compiled during this potential trip in the reports for both this and the Pacific Alliance study.

 

At 5:03 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
