The Standing Committee on International Trade met in camera at 3:34 p.m. this day, in Room 268, La Promenade Building, the Chair, the Hon. Rob Merrifield, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Ron Cannan, Don Davies, Hon. Wayne Easter, Russ Hiebert, Ed Holder, Gerald Keddy, Hon. Rob Merrifield, Marc-André Morin, Annick Papillon, Jasbir Sandhu, Bev Shipley and Devinder Shory.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Alexandre Gauthier, Analyst.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee proceed to sit in public.

 

At 3:35 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 3:36 p.m., the sitting resumed in public.

 

Don Davies moved, — That the Committee proceed to the motion in the name of the Honourable Wayne Easter.

 

The question was put on the motion and the result of the vote was announced: YEAS: 5; NAYS: 5.

Whereupon, the Chair voted in the negative.

Accordingly, the motion was negatived.

 

It was agreed, — That, subject to availability, the Committee meet informally with a delegation of parliamentarians from Iceland, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 2, 2012, that the Committee defray the hospitality expenses related to this meeting, and that these expenses be equally shared with the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development, subject to that Committee’s approval.

 

Ron Cannan moved, — That the Committee proceed to sit in camera.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 6; NAYS: 5.

 

At 3:50 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 3:51 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee defray the hospitality expenses related to working meals to be held during its travel to Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya, Japan, from Saturday, October 27 to Friday, November 2, 2012.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee be authorized to purchase gifts to be presented to foreign hosts during its travel to Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya, Japan, from Saturday, October 27 to Friday, November 2, 2012.

 

It was agreed, — That, in accordance with the motion adopted on September 27, 2011, which established that government legislation take priority over any ongoing study or previously scheduled meeting, the Committee:

study Bill C-24, Canada–Panama Economic Growth and Prosperity Act, for all meetings from September 20 to October 4, 2012 (inclusive);

continue its study of a comprehensive and high-level Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) with Japan for all meetings from October 16 to 25, 2012 (inclusive) and a report be completed following the return from Japan of the delegation, provided that its study of Bill C-24 has been completed;

authorize the Chair to modify this schedule if necessary, at his discretion.

 

At 4:34 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
