The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met in camera at 8:48 a.m. this day, in Room 8-53, 131 Queen Street, the Chair, the Hon. Rob Moore, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Tyrone Benskin, Marjolaine Boutin-Sweet, Paul Calandra, Parm Gill, Jim Hillyer, Hon. Rob Moore, Pierre Nantel and Terence Young.

 

Acting Members present: Mike Allen for Gordon Brown and Jeff Watson for Scott Armstrong.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Michael Dewing, Analyst; Marion Ménard, Analyst. House of Commons: Evelyn Lukyniuk, Procedural Clerk.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

The Chair presented the First Report from the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure.

The Report, as amended, was adopted and read as follows:

Your Subcommittee met on Thursday, September 29, 2011, to consider the business of the Committee and agreed to make the following recommendations:

1. That on Thursday, October 6, 2011, the Committee hold an information session concerning the work it has undertaken during the previous Parliament.

2. That on Tuesday, October 18, 2011, the Committee hear from the New Brunswick Minister of Tourism, the Honourable Trevor Holder, the Bay of Fundy Tourism Director, Terri McCulloch and the Nova Scotia Minister of Tourism, the Honourable Percy Paris on the importance of the New 7 Wonders of Nature Contest as it pertains to the development of tourism and economic development of the entire Bay of Fundy region, and that this meeting be televised.

3. That on Thursday, October 20, 2011, the Committee hear from the Minister of Canadian Heritage, the Honourable James Moore in relation to the Committee's study of Canada's 150th anniversary celebrations.

4. That on Tuesday, October 25, 2011, the Committee hear from the President and relevant officials of CBC/Radio-Canada in relation to CBC/Radio-Canada's Five-Year Strategic Plan.

5. That on Thursday, October 27, 2011, the Committee hear from witnesses about the 1967 celebrations in relation to the Committee's study of Canada's 150th anniversary celebrations.

 

It was agreed, — That, in relation to the Committee’s meeting on the 1967 celebrations, the members of the Committee send their list of suggested witnesses to the Clerk by Tuesday, October 18, 2011.

 

At 8:59 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
