The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met at 11:05 a.m. this day, in Room 7-52, 131 Queen Street, the Chair, the Hon. Rob Moore, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Scott Armstrong, Gordon Brown, Paul Calandra, Andrew Cash, Matthew Dubé, Parm Gill, Jim Hillyer, Hon. Rob Moore, Pierre Nantel, Scott Simms and Terence Young.

Acting Members present: Irene Mathyssen for Rathika Sitsabaiesan.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Michael Dewing, Analyst ; Marion Ménard, Analyst.

Witnesses: Department of Canadian Heritage: Nicole Bourget, Assistant Deputy Minister, Sport, Major Events and Regions; Joel Girouard, Acting Director, State Ceremonial and Protocol Directorate; Denis Racine, Executive Director, Major Events and Celebrations. House of Commons: Audrey O'Brien, Clerk of the House of Commons. Parliament of Canada: Eric Janse, Clerk Assistant and Director General, International and Interparliamentary Affairs; Elizabeth Rody, Chief of Protocol and Director of Events.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, September 27, 2011, the Committee commenced its review of national protocol procedures.

Nicole Bourget made a statement and, with Joel Girouard and Denis Racine, answered questions.

At 11:59 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:03 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Audrey O'Brien made a statement and, with Eric Janse and Elizabeth Rody, answered questions.

At 12:59 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
