The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 11:01 a.m. this day, in Room 7-52, 131 Queen Street, the Chair, Merv Tweed, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Malcolm Allen, Ruth Ellen Brosseau, Randy Hoback, Pierre Lemieux, LaVar Payne, Francine Raynault, Blake Richards, Merv Tweed, Frank Valeriote and Bob Zimmer.

Acting Members present: Irene Mathyssen for Alex Atamanenko and Larry Miller for Brian Storseth.

Associate Members present: Bev Shipley.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Frédéric Forge, Analyst ; Khamla Heminthavong, Analyst.

Witnesses: Canadian Honey Council: Rod Scarlett, Executive Director. Day of the Honey Bee: Clinton Ekdahl, Founder. Munro Honey and Munro's Meadery: Davis Bryans, President. Health Canada: Scott Kirby, Director, Environmental Assessment Directorate, Pest Management Regulatory Agency; Jason Flint, Director, Policy and Regulatory Affairs Division, Policy, Communications and Regulatory Affairs Directorate, Pest Management Regulatory Agency.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, May 30, 2012, the Committee resumed its study of losses in honey bee colonies.

Rod Scarlett, Clinton Ekdahl and Davis Bryans made statements and answered questions.

At 12:02 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:09 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Scott Kirby made a statement and, with Jason Flint, answered questions.

At 1:00 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
