The Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities met at 9:04 a.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Merv Tweed, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dennis Bevington, Lois Brown, Bonnie Crombie, Sukh Dhaliwal, Brian Jean, Mario Laframboise, Colin Mayes, Blake Richards, Merv Tweed, Hon. Joseph Volpe and Jeff Watson.

 

Acting Members present: Louis Plamondon for Roger Gaudet.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: John Christopher, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Transport: Yaprak Baltacioglu, Deputy Minister; Nicole Girard, Director, Policy and Regulatory Services, Civil Aviation; Marc Grégoire, Assistant Deputy Minister, Safety and Security Group; Don Sherritt, Director, Standards, Civil Aviation.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the meeting be videorecorded.

 

On motion of Dennis Bevington, it was agreed, — That the evidence and documentation received by the Committee in the Second Session of the 40th Parliament in relation to its study of Transport Canada’s enforcement of air safety regulations and implementation of Safety Management Systems for the aviation industry, be taken into consideration by the Committee in support of its current study of Aviation Safety and Security.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on March, 25, 2010, the Committee commenced its study of Aviation Safety and Security - Safety Management Systems for the Aviation Industry.
 

Marc Grégoire made a statement and, with Yaprak Baltacioglu and Don Sherritt, answered questions.

 

It was agreed, — That officials from Transport Canada, including Martin Eley if possible, be invited to appear a second time, in order to respond to the testimony of other witnesses on Aviation Safety and Security.

 

At 10:52 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
