The Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities met in a televised session at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Merv Tweed, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Dennis Bevington, Hon. Gerry Byrne, Sukh Dhaliwal, Cheryl Gallant, Roger Gaudet, Michel Guimond, Brian Jean, Colin Mayes, Hon. John McCallum, Brad Trost, Merv Tweed and Jeff Watson.

Associate Members present: Hon. Wayne Easter.

Other Members present: Jim Maloway.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: John Christopher, Analyst ; Jean Dupuis, Analyst.

Appearing: Hon. Rob Merrifield, P.C., M.P., Minister of State (Transport); Hon. Chuck Strahl, P.C., M.P., Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities.

Witnesses: Department of Transport: Yaprak Baltacioglu, Deputy Minister; Kristine Burr, Assistant Deputy Minister, Policy, Policy Group; John Forster, Associate Deputy Minister, Infrastructure of Canada; Laureen Kinney, Associate Assistant Deputy Minister, Safety and Security Group. Infrastructure Canada: David Warren Miller, Assistant Deputy Minister, Corporate Services Branch. Department of Transport: André Morency, Assistant Deputy Minister, Corporate Management and Crown Corporation Governance, Corporate Services.

Pursuant to Standing Order 81(5), the Committee commenced consideration of the Supplementary Estimates (C) 2010-11: Vote 40c and 55c under TRANSPORT referred to the Committee on Tuesday, February 8, 2011.

The Ministers made statements and answered questions.

At 4:34 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:39 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Yaprak Baltacioglu, Kristine Burr, John Forster, Laureen Kinney, David Warren Miller and André Morency answered questions.

John McCallum moved, — That the Committee request from the government a list of all Economic Action Plan events involving Conservative Caucus members (Senators and MPs) where no new funding was announced made since Saturday, January 1, 2011; and that the Committee also request the following details for each announcement:

• date of event;

• all members of the Conservative Caucus present;

• location of event;

• total cost of the event;

• the funding associated with the event;

• method of travel for each caucus member;

• whether or not Ministers used government owned aircraft to travel; and

That the Committee request this information be delivered within five business days.

Debate arose thereon.

It was agreed, — That the debate be now adjourned and that consideration of the motion be added to the end of the Agenda of the next meeting of the Committee.

At 5:31 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
