The Subcommittee on Neurological Disease of the Standing Committee on Health met at 8:49 a.m. this day, in Room C-110, 1 Wellington Street, the Chair, Joy Smith, presiding.

 

Members of the Subcommittee present: Patrick Brown, Kirsty Duncan, Carol Hughes, Luc Malo and Joy Smith.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Karin Phillips, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Parkinson Society Canada: Joyce Gordon, President and Chief Executive Officer. Ottawa Hospital Research Institute: Michael Schlossmacher, Scientist, Neuroscience. University of British Columbia: Jon A. Stoessl, Professor, Head of Neurology, Director, Pacific Parkinson's Research Centre, Canada Research Chair in Parkinson's Disease. As an individual: Greg McGinnis.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Subcommittee resumed its study on Neurological Diseases.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 10:31 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:37 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 
The Subcommittee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Subcommittee business.
 

On motion of Kirsty Duncan, it was agreed, — That the Subcommittee adopt the following report and that the Chair present it to the Standing Committee on Health for its consideration and for presentation to the House:

“The Committee recommends that the Government of Canada declare 2013 as the Year of the Brain.”.

 

At 10:38 a.m., the Subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
