The Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security met in camera at 8:54 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Kevin Sorenson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Don Davies, Roger Gaudet, Mark Holland, Andrew Kania, Ben Lobb, Dave MacKenzie, Alexandra Mendes, Maria Mourani, Rick Norlock, Brent Rathgeber and Kevin Sorenson.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Lyne Casavant, Analyst; Tanya Dupuis, Analyst.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee proceed to the clause-by-clause consideration of Bill C-5, An Act to amend the International Transfer of Offenders Act, on Thursday, February 3, 2011, in an open-ended meeting;

That Raf Souccar, Deputy Commissioner, Federal Policing, Royal Canadian Mounted Police and Mike McDonnel, Former Royal Canadian Mounted Police Assistant Commissioner, Commander of the Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry, Ontario Provincial Police Detachment, appear Tuesday, February 8, 2011 for a briefing on the Royal Canadian Mounted Police;

That witnesses be heard on Bill C-17, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (investigative hearing and recognizance with conditions), on Thursday, February 10, 2011;

That a briefing be held on the Canadian Police Information Centre on Tuesday, February 15, 2011;

That witnesses be heard on a prison expansion study on Thursday, February 17, Thursday, March 3 and Tuesday, April 5, 2011, and that a report be considered on Tuesday, May 3, 2011;

That a report on Canadian Security Intelligence Service be considered on Tuesday, March 8, 2011, in an open-ended meeting;

That a report on the issues surrounding security at the G-8 and G-20 Summits be considered on Thursday, March 10 and Tuesday, March 22, 2011, in an open-ended meeting;

That a report on the study of the changes to the services offered by the Canada Border Services Agency be considered on Thursday, March 31, 2011;

That witnesses on Bill C-23B, An Act to amend the Criminal Records Act and to make consequential amendments to other Acts, be heard on Thursday, March 24, Tuesday, March 29 and Thursday, April 7 and that clause-by-clause consideration be on Tuesday, April 12 and Thursday, April 14, 2011;

That a report on the prison expansion study be considered on Tuesday, May 3, 2011, in an open-ended meeting;

That witnesses on a crime prevention study be heard on Thursday, May 5, Tuesday, May 10 and Tuesday, June 21, 2011;

That the meetings of May 12, 17, 31 and June 14, 16 and 23 be devoted to the consideration of government Bills;

That witnesses be heard on a study on child abduction across Canadian borders on Thursday, May 19 and on Thursday, June 9, 2011;

That witnesses be heard on a study of the North American Security Parameter on Thursday, June 2 and Tuesday, June 7, 2011.

 

At 10:36 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
