The Subcommittee on International Human Rights of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development met in a televised session at 1:05 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Scott Reid, presiding.

 

Members of the Subcommittee present: Hon. Irwin Cotler, Johanne Deschamps, Russ Hiebert, Wayne Marston, Scott Reid, Mario Silva and David Sweet.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Erin Shaw, Analyst; Melissa Radford, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Centre for International Justice: Jayne Stoyles, Executive Director; Matthew Eisenbrandt, Legal Coordinator.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Subcommittee on Thursday, February 10, 2011, the Subcommittee commenced its study of the implications of the State Immunity Act.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

It was agreed, — That the Subcommittee proceed to sit in camera.

 

At 2:00 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 2:02 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Subcommittee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Subcommittee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the evidence heard and documentation received by this Subcommittee in relation to its study on Afghanistan during this session, be taken into consideration by the Subcommittee in its study on the sexual assault of women and children during peacekeeping operations, in fragile states and in situations of conflict, in particular in Afghanistan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Sudan, Pakistan, and Haïti.

 

At 2:11 p.m., the Subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
