The Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates met in a televised session at 11:03 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, the Hon. John McKay, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Diane Bourgeois, Paul Calandra, Ron Cannan, Siobhan Coady, Jacques Gourde, Ed Holder, Pat Martin, Hon. John McKay, Hon. Geoff Regan, Robert Vincent and Chris Warkentin.

 

Acting Members present: Earl Dreeshen for Ed Holder.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Édison Roy-César, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Correctional Service of Canada: Don Head, Commissioner; Liette Dumas-Sluyter, Acting Assistant Commissioner, Corporate Services; Fraser Macaulay, Assistant Commissioner, Human Resource Management. Department of Industry: Richard Dicerni, Deputy Minister; Kelly Gillis, Chief Financial Officer, Comptrollership and Administration Sector; Helen McDonald, Assistant Deputy Minister, Spectrum, Information Technologies and Telecommunications.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(c) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Monday, March 15, 2010, the Committee resumed its study of the freeze on departmental budget envelopes and government operations.
 

Don Head made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 12:04 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:07 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Richard Dicerni made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Siobhan Coady moved, — That the Committee undertake a study on expenditures on advertising by the Government, and that it report its recommendations and conclusions to the House.

Debate arose thereon.

 

It was agreed, — That the debate on the motion be adjourned until the start of the Committee meeting scheduled for Tuesday, February 15, 2011.

 

At 1:01 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
