The Standing Committee on National Defence met at 11:01 a.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Chair, Hon. Maxime Bernier, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Claude Bachand, Hon. Maxime Bernier, Ray Boughen, Peter Braid, Hon. Ujjal Dosanjh, Cheryl Gallant, Jack Harris, Laurie Hawn, Pascal-Pierre Paillé, LaVar Payne and Hon. Bryon Wilfert.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Larry Bagnell for Hon. Keith Martin and Meili Faille for Pascal-Pierre Paillé.

 

Other Members present: Meili Faille.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Wolfgang Koerner, Analyst; Melissa Radford, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: As individuals: Col (Retired) Michel Drapeau, Adjunct Professor, Faculty of Law, University of Ottawa; Philippe Lagassé, Assistant Professor, Graduate School of Public and International Affairs, University of Ottawa.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, March 16, 2010, the Committee commenced its study of the role of Canadian soldiers in international peace operations after 2011.
 

Colonel (Retired) Michel Drapeau and Philippe Lagassé made statements and answered questions.

 

At 12:28 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:32 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(1), as part of its study of search and rescue response times, the Committee request that the government table with the Committee its study of search and rescue aircraft of March 2010.

 

It was agreed, — That, at the discretion of the Chair, all correspondence submitted to the Committee be translated and distributed to members of the Committee.

 

At 12:41 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
