The Standing Committee on Official Languages met in a televised session at 9:00 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Steven Blaney, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Mauril Bélanger, Steven Blaney, Sylvie Boucher, Jean-Claude D'Amours, Shelly Glover, Yvon Godin, Monique Guay, Richard Nadeau, Tilly O'Neill-Gordon, John Weston and Lise Zarac.

 

Acting Members present: Mike Allen for Bernard Généreux and Jacques Gourde for Sylvie Boucher.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Lucie Lecomte, Analyst; Nicolas Auclair, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. James Moore, P.C., M.P., Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.

 

Witnesses: Quebec Community Groups Network: Robert Donnelly, President; Nicola Johnston, Co-Chair, Youth Standing Committee; Sylvia Martin-Laforge, Director General. Department of Canadian Heritage: Judith A. LaRocque, Deputy Minister; Pablo Sobrino, Assistant Deputy Minister, Strategic Policy, Planning and Corporate Affairs.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(f) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, March 11, 2010, the Committee commenced consideration of the study of the review of the last 40 Years of the Official Languages Act.
 

Robert Donnelly and Nicola Johnston made statements and, with Sylvia Martin-Laforge, answered questions.

 

At 9:59 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:02 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(f) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, March 11, 2010, the Committee commenced its study of the official languages policies and programs in the Main Estimates 2010-2011 of the Department of Canadian Heritage.
 

The Minister made a statement and, with Judith A. LaRocque and Pablo Sobrino, answered questions.

 

At 10:59 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
