The Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology met in a televised session at 9:02 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, the Hon. Michael D.Chong, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Peter Braid, Gordon Brown, Serge Cardin, Hon. Michael D. Chong, Marc Garneau, Mike Lake, Brian Masse, Hon. Dan McTeague, Anthony Rota, Dave Van Kesteren and Mike Wallace.

 

Acting Members present: Carole Lavallée for Robert Bouchard.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Mathieu Frigon, Analyst; Dillan Theckedath, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Bell Canada: Mirko Bibic, Senior Vice-President, Regulatory and Government Affairs. MTS Allstream Inc.: Chris Peirce, Chief Corporate Officer. Shaw Communications Inc.: Jean Brazeau, Senior Vice-President, Regulatory Affairs; Ken Stein, Senior Vice-President, Corporate and Regulatory Affairs. Rogers Communications Inc.: Kenneth Engelhart, Senior Vice-President, Regulatory. TELUS Communications: Michael Hennessy, Senior Vice-President, Regulatory and Government Affairs.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, March 11, 2010, the Committee resumed its study of Canada's Foreign Ownership Rules and Regulations in the Telecommunications Sector.
 

Kenneth Englehart, Ken Stein and Jean Brazeau made statements and answered questions.

 

At 9:58 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:04 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Mirko Bibic, Chris Peirce and Michael Hennessy made statements and answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the draft news release to invite the public to submit briefs no later than Friday, April 30, 2010 on the study of Canada's Foreign Ownership Rules and Regulations in the Telecommunications Sector be adopted.

 

At 11:03 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
