The Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Candice Hoeppner, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Ron Cannan, Rick Casson, Raymonde Folco, Candice Hoeppner, Ed Komarnicki, Yves Lessard, Ben Lobb, Tony Martin, Hon. Maria Minna, Michael John Savage and Maurice Vellacott.

 

Acting Members present: Daniel Paillé for Josée Beaudin.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Chantal Collin, Analyst; André Léonard, Analyst.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Michael John Savage moved, — That the Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development, and the Status of Persons with Disabilities, with the agreement of the Ministers responsible for the Estimates, provide to the Committee on the day they are scheduled to appear to defend their Estimates, an electronic version of their remarks to be distributed one hour before the start of the scheduled meeting. And that, notwithstanding the duration of Ministerial opening remarks, the Committee allocate ninety minutes for question by Members.

Debate arose thereon.

 

Ed Komarnicki moved, — That the motion be amended by replacing the words “an electronic version of their remarks to be distributed one hour before the start of the scheduled meeting” with the words “a written version of their remarks to be distributed in both official languages prior to the scheduled start of the meeting”.

 

After debate, the question was put on the amendment of Ed Komarnicki and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 10; NAYS: 1.

 

The question was put on the motion, as amended, and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 10; NAYS: 1.

 

The motion, as amended, read as follows:

That the Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development, and the Status of Persons with Disabilities, with the agreement of the Ministers responsible for the Estimates, provide to the Committee on the day they are scheduled to appear to defend their Estimates, a written version of their remarks to be distributed in both official languages prior to the scheduled start of the meeting. And that, notwithstanding the duration of Ministerial opening remarks, the Committee allocate ninety minutes for question by Members.

 

On motion of Raymonde Folco, it was agreed, — That the 2010 Centennial Flame Research Award be offered this year; that the amount of the award be increased from $4,500 to $5,000; and that a press release be put out to invite Canadians with disabilities to apply.

 

On motion of Yves Lessard, it was agreed, — That, notwithstanding the motion agreed to for a budget of $14,129 on March 22, 2010, for a trip to the Aboriginal reserve of Lac Simon and the reserve of Kitcisakik, that the new Budget of $ 13,752 be adopted instead, in order to allow the Committee to travel to and from the same locations by plane and on the same day.

 

At 4:17 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
