The Standing Committee on Health met at 11:08 a.m. this day, in Room 7-52, 131 Queen St., the Chair, Joy Smith, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Patrick Brown, Colin Carrie, Patricia Davidson, Nicolas Dufour, Kirsty Duncan, Cathy McLeod, Joy Smith and Tim Uppal.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Larry Bagnell for Hon. Ujjal Dosanjh, Hon. Carolyn Bennett for Ruby Dhalla, Carol Hughes for Megan Anissa Leslie and Roger Pomerleau for Luc Malo.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Karin Phillips, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Health: Beth Pieterson, Director General, Environmental and Radiation Health Sciences Directorate, Healthy Environments and Consumer Safety Branch. Lawson Health Research Institute: Frank Prato, Imaging Program Leader, Assistant Scientific Director. Simcoe County Safe School Committee: Rodney Palmer, Member. As an individual: Anthony Martin Muc, Adjunct Lecturer, Dalla Lana School of Public Health, Occupational and Environmental Health Unit, University of Toronto. Thermographix Consulting Corporation: Curtis Bennett, President. Columbia University: Martin Blank, Associate Professor of physiology and cellular biophysics, Department of physiology and cellular biophysics.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, March 30, 2010, the Committee resumed its study on the impact of microwaves on human health.
 

Beth Pieterson, Frank Prato, Rodney Palmer, Anthony Martin Muc, Curtis Bennett by videoconference from Kelowna, British Columbia and Martin Blank by videoconference from Victoria, British Columbia made statements and answered questions.

 

At 12:45 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:48 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 

The Committee proceeded to give drafting instructions to the Analyst for the report.

 

It was agreed, — That members of the Committee send to the Clerk their proposed recommendations for the report by Friday, November 12, 2010.

 

At 1:00 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
