The Standing Committee on Health met at 9:01 a.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Joy Smith, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Carolyn Bennett, Patrick Brown, Colin Carrie, Patricia Davidson, Nicolas Dufour, Kirsty Duncan, Megan Anissa Leslie, Luc Malo, Cathy McLeod, Joyce Murray, Joy Smith and Tim Uppal.

 

Associate Members present: Carol Hughes.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Marie Chia, Analyst; Karin Phillips, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: University of Toronto: Mary L'Abbé, Earle W. McHenry Professor, Chair, Department of Nutritional Sciences, Faculty of Medicine. University of Ottawa Heart Institute: Andrew Pipe, Chief of the Division of Prevention and Rehabilitation, Professor, Faculty of Medicine, University of Ottawa. Canadian Restaurant and Foodservices Association: Ron Reaman, Vice-President, Federal. Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada: Stephen Samis, Director, Health Policy. Dairy Farmers of Canada: Nathalie Savoie, Assistant Director, Nutrition, National Programs. Food and Consumer Products of Canada: Phyllis Tanaka, Vice-President, Scientific and Regulatory Affairs (Food Policy).

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, March 30, 2010, the Committee commenced its study on Sodium Consumption in the Canadian Diet.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 10:58 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
