The Standing Committee on Health met by teleconference at 8:59 a.m. this day, in Room 308 West Block, the Chair, Joy Smith, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Carolyn Bennett, Patricia Davidson, Nicolas Dufour, Luc Malo, Cathy McLeod, Joyce Murray, Joy Smith, Tim Uppal and Judy Wasylycia-Leis.

 

Acting Members present: Dona Cadman for Patrick Brown, Hon. Anita Neville for Kirsty Duncan and Chris Warkentin for Colin Carrie.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Marie Chia, Analyst; Karin Phillips, Analyst.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, March 30, 2010, the Committee commenced its study of Elevated Rates of Tuberculosis Infection in the First Nations and Inuit Communities.
 

Shelagh Jane Woods, Chief Angus Toulouse, Gail Turner, Chief Joseph Dantouze and Richard Long, by videoconference from Edmonton, Alberta made statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 10:01 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:03 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Earl Hershfield, Pamela Orr, Brian Graham, Elaine Randall, James Chauvin, Janet Hatcher Roberts and Anne Fanning made statements and answered questions.

 

It was agreed, — That the proposed operational budget in the amount of $20, 600 for the Committee's study on the elevated rates of tuberculosis infection in First Nations and Inuit Communities be adopted.

 

At 11:01 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
