The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met at 5:04 p.m. this day, in the The Pacific Ballroom, Anchor Inn & Suites, Campbell River, British Columbia, the Vice-Chair, Raynald Blais, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Raynald Blais, Ron Cannan, Rodger Cuzner, Fin Donnelly, Randy Kamp, Joyce Murray and John Weston.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: François Côté, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: BC Centre for Aquatic Health Sciences: Sonja Saksida, Executive Director. Ahousaht First Nation: Keith Atleo, Lead Negotiator; Sidney Sam, Sr., Elder. Squamish to Lillooet Sport Fish Advisory Committee: Dave Brown, Vice-Chair. Village of Tahsis: Martin Davis, Councillor. As an individual: Iñigo Novales Flamarique, Professor, Biological Sciences, Simon Fraser University. Creative Salmon Company Ltd.: Barbara Cannon, Biology Manager. BC Salmon Farmers Association: Colleen Dane, Communications Manager. Living Oceans Society: Catherine Stewart, Manager, Salmon Farming Campaign. Georgia Strait Alliance: Michelle Young, Salmon Aquaculture Campaigner. Aboriginal Adventures Canada: Tom Sewid, Executive Director, British Columbia Branch. Powell River Salmon Society: Hugh William Kingwell, President. As an individual: Brendan Connors, PhD Candidate, Department of Biology, Simon Fraser University.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, April 28, 2010, the Committee resumed its study of aquaculture in the Pacific region.
 

Sonja Saksida, Keith Atleo, Dave Brown, Martin Davis, Iñigo Novales Flamarique, Barbara Cannon and Colleen Dane made statements and, with Sidney Sam Sr., answered questions.

 

At 6:32 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 7:19 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Catherine Stewart, Michelle Young, Tom Sewid, Hugh William Kingwell and Brendan Connors made statements and answered questions.

 

At 8:43 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
