The Standing Committee on the Status of Women met at 8:08 a.m. this day, in the Copper Room, Yellowknife Inn, Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, the Hon. Anita Neville, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dona Cadman, Nicole Demers, Hon. Hedy Fry, Nina Grewal and Hon. Anita Neville.

 

Other Members present: Dennis Bevington.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Julie Cool, Analyst; Laura Munn-Rivard, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Northwest Territories Coalition against Family Violence: Lorraine Phaneuf, Representative, Executive Director, Status of Women Council of the Northwest Territories; Lyda Fuller, Representative, Executive Director, YWCA Yellowknife. Pauktuutit Inuit Women's Association: Sandra Tucker, Manager, Abuse Prevention Policy and Programs. Yellowknife Health and Social Services Authority: Barbara Lacey, Manager, Clinical Supervisor, Community Mental Health and Addictions; Sheila Nelson, Manager, Community and Family Services, Child Protection Program. Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Monday, March 8, 2010, the Committee resumed its study of violence against Aboriginal women.
 

By unanimous consent, Anita Neville took the Chair.

 

At 8:12 a.m., Hedy Fry took the Chair.

 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 9:57 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:10 a.m., the sitting resumed.
