The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development met in camera at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Dean Allison, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Jim Abbott, Dean Allison, Johanne Deschamps, Paul Dewar, Jean Dorion, James Lunney, Deepak Obhrai, Bernard Patry, Glen Douglas Pearson and Dave Van Kesteren.

 

Acting Members present: Ron Cannan for Peter Goldring and Hon. Mark Eyking for Hon. Bob Rae.

 

Associate Members present: Scott Reid.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Melissa Radford, Analyst; James Lee, Analyst; Allison Goody, Analyst. House of Commons: Julie Pelletier, Procedural Clerk.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee commenced its study of the universal periodic review.
 

The Committee commenced consideration of a draft report.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee adopt, as amended, the report on the universal periodic review, as adopted by its Subcommittee on International Human Rights, on Wednesday, June 16, 2010.

 

It was agreed, — That the report be entitled: “Canada's Universal Periodic Review and Beyond — Upholding Canada's International Reputation as a Global Leader in the Field of Human Rights”.

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair, Clerk and analysts be authorized to make such grammatical and editorial changes as may be necessary without changing the substance of the report.

 

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 109, the Committee request that the Government table a comprehensive response to the report.

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair present the report to the House.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee commenced its study of human rights in Iran.
 

The Committee commenced consideration of a draft report.

 

At 5:28 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
