The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development met in camera at 11:01 a.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Dean Allison, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dean Allison, Johanne Deschamps, Peter Goldring, Francine Lalonde, James Lunney, Bernard Patry, Glen Douglas Pearson and Dave Van Kesteren.

 

Acting Members present: Fin Donnelly for Paul Dewar, Mike Lake for Hon. Jim Abbott, Hon. John McKay for Hon. Bob Rae and Devinder Shory for Deepak Obhrai.

 

Associate Members present: Scott Reid.

 

Other Members present: Hon. Anita Neville.

 

In attendance: House of Commons: Andrew Lauzon, Procedural Clerk; Julie Lalande Prud'homme, Procedural Clerk. Library of Parliament: Allison Goody, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Federation for Sexual Health: Jolanta Scott-Parker, Executive Director. Action Canada for Population and Development: Katherine McDonald, Executive Director. International Confederation of Midwives: Bridget Lynch, President. Micronutrient Initiative: Aynsley Morris, Communications Manager. Results Canada: Christina Dendys, Executive Director.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $2,000, adopted by the Subcommittee on International Human Rights for its study of the Universal Periodic Review, be adopted.

 

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $8,400, adopted by the Subcommittee on International Human Rights for its study of Human Rights in Iran, be adopted.

 

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $4,350, adopted by the Subcommittee on International Human Rights for its study of Human Rights in Mexico, be adopted.

 

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $15,400, adopted by the Subcommittee on International Human Rights for its study of Human Rights in Afghanistan, be adopted.

 

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $1,600, adopted by the Subcommittee on International Human Rights for its study of Nathalie Morin's Situation, be adopted.

 

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $29,450, adopted by the Subcommittee on International Human Rights for its study of Human Rights in Venezuela, be adopted.

 

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $11,200, adopted by the Subcommittee on International Human Rights for its study of Human Rights in Belarus, be adopted.

 

At 11:23 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

 

At 11:25 a.m., the Committee proceeded to sit in public.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, April 22, 2010, the Committee resumed its study of the Group of Eight (G8) Summit with a focus on the Maternal and Child Health Initiative.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 12:58 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
