The Standing Committee on International Trade met at 3:42 p.m. this day, in Room C-180, 1 Wellington, the Chair, Lee Richardson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dean Allison, Ron Cannan, John Cannis, Claude Guimond, Martha Hall Findlay, Ed Holder, Peter Julian, Gerald Keddy, Jean-Yves Laforest, Lee Richardson, Mario Silva and Brad Trost.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Alexandre Gauthier, Analyst; Simon Lapointe, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canada-Arab Business Council: David Hutton, Director General; Martha Harrison, Board Member.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Monday, September 27, 2010, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-8, An Act to implement the Free Trade Agreement between Canada and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Agreement on the Environment between Canada and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the Agreement on Labour Cooperation between Canada and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
 

David Hutton and Martha Harrison made statements and answered questions.

 

At 5:08 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:15 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $90,821, for the Committee's travel, in relation to its study on free trade between Canada and the European Union, to London, United Kingdom; Strasbourg, France and Budapest, Hungary in November, 2010, be adopted and that the Chair present the said budget to the Subcommittee on Committee Budgets of the Liaison Committee.

 

It was agreed, — That, in relation to its study on free trade between Canada and the European Union, the Committee travel to London, United Kingdom; Strasbourg, France and Budapest, Hungary from Saturday, November 20 to Friday, November 26, 2010.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee meet on Wednesday, November 3, 2010 to receive a briefing from representatives of the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade on the subject of the Committee’s travel to Europe as part of its study on free trade between Canada and the European Union.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee meet on Wednesday, November 3, 2010 to receive a briefing from representatives of the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade on the subject of Bill C-46, An Act to implement the Free Trade Agreement between Canada and the Republic of Panama, the Agreement on the Environment between Canada and the Republic of Panama and the Agreement on Labour Cooperation between Canada and the Republic of Panama.

 

At 5:20 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
