The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met at 11:03 a.m. this day, in Room 853, 131 Queen St., the Chair, Gary Ralph Schellenberger, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Charlie Angus, Rod Bruinooge, Dean Del Mastro, Ruby Dhalla, Royal Galipeau, Nina Grewal, Carole Lavallée, Roger Pomerleau, Pablo Rodriguez, Gary Ralph Schellenberger, Scott Simms and Tim Uppal.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Michael Dewing; Marion Ménard.

 

Witnesses: Rogers Communications Inc.: Kenneth Engelhart, Regulatory; Jeremy Butteriss, Broadband Entertainment, Rogers Cable. marblemedia Inc.: Mark Bishop. As an individual: Steven High, Department of History, Concordia University. Alliance numérique - Réseau de l'industrie numérique du Québec: Pierre Proulx.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, March 16, 2010, the Committee resumed its study on the emerging and digital media: opportunities and challenges.
 

Kenneth Engelhart, Jeremy Butteriss and Mark Bishop made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 11:52 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 11:56 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Steven High and Pierre Proulx made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 12:40 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:41 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

On motion of Charlie Angus, it was agreed, — That the Committee hold hearings with officials from Lions Gate Entertainment Corporation, Carl Icahn, and representatives from Canada’s film and television industry to discuss the attempted takeover of Canadian film production and distribution firm, Lions Gate, by U.S. investor Carl Icahn, and that the Committee invite departmental officials in order to explain the evaluation process.

 

At 12:57 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
