By unanimous consent, it was ordered, — That, notwithstanding any Standing Order or usual practice of the House, a Member from each recognized party may speak for not more than ten minutes on the second reading motion of Bill C-17, An Act to recognize Beechwood Cemetery as the national cemetery of Canada, after which the Bill shall be deemed to have been read a second time and referred to a Committee of the Whole, deemed considered in Committee of the Whole, deemed reported without amendment, deemed concurred in at report stage and deemed read a third time and passed.

Government Orders

The Order was read for the second reading and reference to the Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development of Bill C-17, An Act to recognize Beechwood Cemetery as the national cemetery of Canada.

Mr. Hill (Leader of the Government in the House of Commons) for Mr. Prentice (Minister of the Environment), seconded by Mr. O'Connor (Minister of State), moved, — That the Bill be now read a second time and referred to the Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development.

Debate arose thereon.

Pursuant to Order made earlier today, the Bill was deemed read the second time and referred to a Committee of the Whole, deemed considered in Committee of the Whole, deemed reported without amendment, deemed concurred in at report stage and deemed read the third time and passed.


The Order was read for the consideration at report stage of Bill C-2, An Act to implement the Free Trade Agreement between Canada and the States of the European Free Trade Association (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland), the Agreement on Agriculture between Canada and the Republic of Iceland, the Agreement on Agriculture between Canada and the Kingdom of Norway and the Agreement on Agriculture between Canada and the Swiss Confederation, as reported by the Standing Committee on International Trade with an amendment.

Pursuant to Standing Order 76.1(5), the Speaker selected for debate Motion No. 1.

Mr. Julian (Burnaby—New Westminster), seconded by Mr. Stoffer (Sackville—Eastern Shore), moved Motion No. 1, — That Bill C-2 be amended by deleting Clause 33.
