The Standing Committee on National Defence met at 3:34 p.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Chair, Rick Casson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Claude Bachand, Dawn Black, Steven Blaney, Ray Boughen, Rick Casson, Hon. Denis Coderre, Cheryl Gallant, Laurie Hawn, Hon. Anita Neville, Pascal-Pierre Paillé, LaVar Payne and Hon. Bryon Wilfert.

 

Acting Members present: Dean Allison for Laurie Hawn.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: James Cox, Analyst; Wolfgang Koerner, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: National Defence and Canadian Forces Ombudsman: Mary McFadyen, General Counsel. Department of National Defence: BGen Hilary Jaeger, Commander of the Canadian Forces Health Services Group, Director General of Health Services and Canadian Forces Surgeon General; Col A. Darch, Director, Mental Health; LCol S. Grenier, Special Advisor, Operational Stress Injuries, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder; Col D. Ethell, (retired), Chair, Mental Health Advisory Committee, Veterans Affairs Canada and Department of National Defence.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Monday, February 23, 2009, the Committee commenced its study of health services provided to Canadian Forces personnel with an emphasis on post-traumatic stress disorder.
 

Mary McFadyen made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 4:32 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:37 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

BGen Hilary Jaeger made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 5:35 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
