The Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, for the purpose of electing a Chair, pursuant to Standing Order 106(1).

 

Members of the Committee present: Dean Allison, Josée Beaudin, Dona Cadman, Ron Cannan, Raymonde Folco, Ed Komarnicki, Yves Lessard, Ben Lobb, Tony Martin, Hon. Maria Minna and Maurice Vellacott.

 

Acting Members present: Alan Tonks for Michael John Savage.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Chantal Collin, Analyst; André Léonard, Analyst. House of Commons: Jacques Lahaie, Committee Clerk.

 

The Clerk of the Committee presided over the election of the Chair.

 

On motion of Dona Cadman, it was agreed, — That Dean Allison be elected Chair of the Committee.

 

The Clerk of the Committee presided over the election of the Vice-Chairs.

 

On motion of Maria Minna, it was agreed, — That Raymonde Folco be elected First Vice-Chair of the Committee.

 

On motion of Josée Beaudin, it was agreed, — That Yves Lessard be elected Second Vice-Chair of the Committee.

 

Dean Allison took the Chair.

 

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee start the study of Bill C-50, An Act to amend the Employment Insurance Act and to increase benefits on Tuesday, October 6, 2009 with officials from the Department of Human Resources and Skills Development.

 

At 3:49 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
