The Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met in a televised session at 11:08 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Dean Allison, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dean Allison, Josée Beaudin, Ron Cannan, Raymonde Folco, Ed Komarnicki, Yves Lessard, Ben Lobb, Michael John Savage and Maurice Edgar Peter Vellacott.

 

Acting Members present: Candice Hoeppner for Dona Cadman, Massimo Pacetti for Hon. Maria Minna and Glenn Thibeault for Tony Martin.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Chantal Collin, Analyst; Kevin Kerr, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Mental Health Commission of Canada: Jayne Barker, Director of Policy and Research; Howard Chodos, Director, Mental Health Strategy; Hon. Michael J. L. Kirby, Chair; Micheal Pietrus, Director, Anti-stigma/Anti-discrimination Campaign.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, February 10, 2009, the Committee resumed its study of the federal contribution to reducing poverty in Canada.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 12:49 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:52 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

By unanimous consent, the Committee reverted to the consideration of the motion of Yves Lessard previously stood which read as follows:

That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), that the Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities examine the operation and financial support allocated by the Enabling Accessibility Fund for small or major projects submitted by organizations, and that the Committee report its observations and recommendations to the House.

 

The Committee resumed consideration of the amendment of Ed Komarnicki, — That the motion be amended by adding between the words “examine” and “the” with the following :“ at the conclusion of the poverty study and for one meeting,”.

 

By unanimous consent, the amendment was withdrawn.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to on the following recorded division: YEAS: Josée Beaudin, Ron Cannan, Raymonde Folco, Candice Hoeppner, Ed Komarnicki, Yves Lessard, Ben Lobb, Massimo Pacetti, Michael John Savage, Glenn Thibeault, Maurice Edgar Peter Vellacott — 11; NAYS: — 0.

 

At 1:02 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
