The Standing Committee on Finance met at 9:00 a.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, James Rajotte, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Maxime Bernier, Robert Carrier, Daryl Kramp, Jean-Yves Laforest, Hon. John McCallum, Hon. John McKay, Massimo Pacetti, James Rajotte and Mike Wallace.

 

Acting Members present: Gord Brown for Bob Dechert, Glenn Thibeault for Thomas J. Mulcair and Bradley R. Trost for Ted Menzies.

 

Other Members present: Yvon Lévesque.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Philippe Bergevin, Analyst; Mark Mahabir, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions Canada: Julie Dickson, Superintendent. Export Development Canada: Eric Siegel, President & Chief Executive Officer, International Trade. Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives: Arthur Donner, Economist; Hon. Douglas D. Peters. Canadian Automobile Dealers Association: Richard C. Gauthier, President and Chief Executive Officer; Michael Hatch, Chief Economist.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, February 5, 2009, the Committee resumed its study on Measures to Enhance Credit Availability and the Stability of the Canadian Financial System.
 

Julie Dickson, Eric Seigel, Hon. Douglas D. Peters, Richard C. Gauthier and Michel Hatch made statements and, with Arthur Donner, answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Jean-Yves Laforest moved, — That the Finance Committee dedicate a meeting to studying the methods used by the Canada Revenue Agency to calculate the taxable income of tip workers in Quebec. That representatives of the Canada Revenue Agency and tip workers appear at that meeting.

 

After debate, by unanimous consent, the motion was withdrawn.

 

At 10:58 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
