The Standing Committee on the Status of Women met at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Hedy Fry, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Sylvie Boucher, Nicole Demers, Luc Desnoyers, Hon. Hedy Fry, Candice Hoeppner, Irene Mathyssen, Cathy McLeod, Dave Van Kesteren, Alice Wong and Lise Zarac.

 

Acting Members present: Siobhan Coady for Hon. Anita Neville.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Julie Cool, Analyst; Lara Trehearne, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Building and Construction Trades Department, AFL-CIO, Canadian Office: Christopher Smillie, Policy Analyst, Government and Regulatory Affairs. Dig-All Construction Ltd.: Debra Faye Penner, Office Administrator and Estimator. Commission scolaire de Laval: Sylvie Émond, Adult education and vocational training commissioner ; René Barrette, Vice-Principal, Le Chantier vocational training centre; Bianka Michaud, Education consultant, Le Chantier vocational training centre.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, October 1, 2009, the Committee resumed its study on increasing the participation of women in non-traditional occupations.
 

Christopher Smillie, Debra Faye Penner and Sylvie Émond made statements and answered questions.

 

At 5:08 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:11 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That, notwithstanding the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday October 27, 2009, the Committee stop the parallel studies which they have been working on and prioritize the pension study so that the Committee can contribute to the government study on pensions and help Canadians; and that the study on non-traditional work be postponed until next year.

 

At 5:31 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
