The Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics met in a televised session at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Paul Szabo, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Kelly Block, Bob Dechert, Earl Dreeshen, Russ Hiebert, Pierre Poilievre, Bill Siksay, Michelle Simson, Paul Szabo and Borys Wrzesnewskyj.

 

Acting Members present: Yvon Lévesque for Ève-Mary Thaï Thi Lac and Richard Nadeau for Carole Freeman.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Alysia Davies, Analyst; Élise Hurtubise-Loranger, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Rob Nicholson, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada.

 

Witnesses: Department of Justice: Carolyn Kobernick, Assistant Deputy Minister, Public Law Sector; Denis Kratchanov, Director and General Counsel, Information Law and Privacy Section; Joan Remsu, General Counsel and Director, Public Law Policy Section.

 
Pursuant to Standing Orders 108(2) and 108(3)(h)(iv), Special Report of the Information Commissioner entitled "Report Cards 2007-2008 and Systemic Issues Affecting Access to Information in Canada" referred to the Committee on Thursday, February 26, 2009, and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, March 4, 2009, the Committee resumed its study on the Access to Information Act Reform.
 

The Minister made a statement, and with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 5:26 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:26 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Monday, February 9, 2009, the Committee resumed its study on the Privacy Act Reform.
 

The Committee resumed consideration of a draft report.

 

At 5:43 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
