The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met at 11:02 a.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Gary Ralph Schellenberger, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Charlie Angus, Dean Del Mastro, Carole Lavallée, Roger Pomerleau, Pablo Rodriguez, Gary Ralph Schellenberger and Scott Simms.

 

Acting Members present: Sylvie Boucher for Jacques Gourde, Paul Calandra for Nina Grewal and Hon. Maria Minna for Ruby Dhalla.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Michael Dewing, Analyst; Marion Ménard, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Massimo Pacetti, M.P., Saint-Léonard—Saint-Michel. National Congress of Italian-Canadians: Michael Stante, President; Nino Colavecchio, Former President; Dominic Campione, Former President; Antonio Sciascia, President, Quebec Region and Member of the Italian-Canadian Community Foundation. Casa D'Italia: Ciro Cucciniello, Board Member. Order Sons of Italy of Canada: Fernando Forcucci, Immediate Past President. Italian-Canadian Community Foundation: Mario Galella, Ex-Officio.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Friday, March 6, 2009, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-302, An Act to recognize the injustice that was done to persons of Italian origin through their “enemy alien” designation and internment during the Second World War, and to provide for restitution and promote education on Italian-Canadian history.
 

Massimo Pacetti made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 11:49 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 11:54 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Michael Stante, Nino Colavecchio, Dominic Campione, Antonio Sciascia, Ciro Cucciniello and Fernando Forcucci made statements and, with Mario Galella, answered questions.

 

At 1:00 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
