The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met in a televised session at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Gary Ralph Schellenberger, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Charlie Angus, Rod Bruinooge, Dean Del Mastro, Shelly Glover, Nina Grewal, Carole Lavallée, Roger Pomerleau, Pablo Rodriguez, Gary Ralph Schellenberger, Scott Simms and Tim Uppal.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Hedy Fry for Ruby Dhalla.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Michael Dewing, Analyst; Marion Ménard, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists (ACTRA): Richard Hardacre, National President; Wendy Crewson, Member. Canadian Association of Community Television Users and Stations (CACTUS): Catherine Edwards, Spokesperson; Michael Lithgow, Research Associate, Campaign for Democratic Media. Stornoway Communications: Martha Fusca, President. Alliance québécoise des techniciens de l'image et du son: Brunhilde Pradier, President. Guilde des musiciens et musiciennes du Québec: Luc Fortin, President, Section Local 406 of the American Federation of Musicians of Canada and the United States; Mylène Cyr, Director General, Section Local 406 of the American Federation of Musicians of Canada and the United States.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, March 11, 2009, the Committee resumed its study on the evolution of the television industry in Canada and its impact on local communities.
 

Richard Hardacre, Wendy Crewson, Catherine Edwards and Martha Fusca made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 4:31 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:38 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Brunhilde Pradier and Luc Fortin made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 5:38 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
